3-WAY PARENT INTERVIEWS (PART 1)

(Adapted from school newsletter - 10 March 2017)

We consider the relationship between students, parents and the school to be of paramount importance. For this reason, we invite Grade 4 – 7 students and their parents to attend a 3-Way Parent Interview. These student-led interviews will replace the traditional ISP parent/teacher interviews at the end of our first term. The interviews are attended by the student, parent/guardian and register teacher. The register teacher will facilitate the meeting, but the student is in charge.

Not only does this open up communication between school and home, but students are given the opportunity to exercise their 21st century skills of communication, organization and leadership in a real life situation. The process also teaches pupils the important practices of self-evaluation and self-reflection. The focus is on learning and goal setting, allowing all stake-holders, to be part of the process.

3-Way Parent Interviews are 20 minutes long, allowing for perusal of work and discussion to take place without feeling too pressured. During the interview, students will display chosen pieces of work, explain their progress and mastery of both the content and core skills covered in their work.

Invitations will be sent home in order for appointments to be secured in good time.

Objectives:

  • To increase student accountability and autonomy concerning academics and their habits of work and learning

  • To improve student verbal communication and critical thinking skills.

  • To emphasize our school's student-centered philosophy.

  • To build open relationships with families concerning student progress.
