3-WAY PARENT INTERVIEWS (PART 3)
(Adapted from school newsletter - 31 March 2017)
It has been with such pride that I spent the past week sitting in classrooms or simply walking along our school corridors, watching and listening to the valuable interaction between student, parents and teacher. The children have been SO excited to share their learning experience, and I’ve been amazed at the maturity and honesty in the personal evaluation of their efforts and outcomes. This, is what education is about – a partnership between student, teacher and parent – all stakeholders in one of the most important journeys of their life.
Maybe, one day, when they’re presenting a portfolio to a client or facing a prospective employer, they’ll think back to the first time they sat, excited yet a little apprehensive, showing their work and taking ownership of their learning.
It would be remiss of me not to extend my thanks to the students for their level of commitment in preparing for the interviews, to the teachers who spent a great deal of time coaching and assisting the students as they reflected upon, evaluated and selected the pieces of work for the interviews, and finally to the parents, for making time in busy schedules to listen to your children and, along with them, both celebrate their achievements and acknowledge their areas for growth. It was heartening to see the level of investment our parents have in their children – despite the busy lives we all lead. Well done, boys and girls, parents and teachers – you were all stars in your own right!
